State Senator Iris Y. Martinez Extends Tax Breaks For Film Industry

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM) – Some Illinois lawmakers want to make sure the film industry keeps coming back to Illinois, for the next decade, at least.

As WBBM Newsradio 780’s Alex Degman reports, the state Senate has passed a measure that keeps Illinois’ current tax credits to film companies for the next 10 years, at which point they will disappear.

Bills under review in IL Gen Assembly committees


A Google document is being circulated rallying Illinois residents to contact state general assembly representative to support two bills – HB 0596 and SB 0620 — being reviewed in committee on Wednesday morning, April 13th.

According to the google doc, HB 0592 is scheduled for review in the House Elementary and Secondary Ed Committee Hearing at 8:00 am in Room 114 of the Capitol Building in Springfield.  HB 0592 introduces amendments to Section 10 of the School Code (105) of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (aka 105 ILCS).  Section 10 of the 105 ILCS  addresses issues related to the treatment of students suspended or expelled from Illinois schools.  The proposed amendment discusses the establishment of alternative schools where suspended/expelled students shall be sent.  The bill is sponsored by Representative Elizabeth Hernandez.  For more information on the bill, click on this HB0592 link.

Martinez Creates Commission to Improve Education


Springfield IL- Today, State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) passed Senate Bill 620 out of the Illinois Senate. It creates a commission based on the findings and recommendations of the Chicago Education Facilities Task Force (CEFTF). The commission will help Chicago Public Schools (CPS) produce facility and budgeting plans to improve educational facilities.
