Martinez Sponsors Legislation to  Streamline Child Abuse and Neglect Investigations


Springfield IL- Today, Governor Quinn signed legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) that streamlines investigations in cases of child abuse and neglect in the Illinois Senate.

Senate Bill 106 allows counselors, doctors, and other medical professionals to provide information to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) during ongoing abuse or neglect cases without reasonable suspicion.

                                      Senator Martinez “Patients’ Right to Know Act” Signed by Governor Quinn

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Today Governor Quinn signed legislation sponsored by State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) that creates the “Patients Right to Know Act.” House Bill 105 requires the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) to provide the public with profiles of licensed physicians registered in Illinois.

This legislation comes in lieu of several important reforms in the medical malpractice laws that were overturned by the Supreme Court. The new law reenacts the provision providing the comprehensive profile system.

Governor Signs Illinois Dream Act into Law

Martinez Legislation will Prevent Domestic Battery Offenders from Owning Guns

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Today, Governor Pat Quinn signed House Bill 3365 sponsored by State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago). The new law prohibits people who have been convicted of domestic battery from owning guns and restricts anyone who is under a restraining order from possessing a firearm.

“This is common sense legislation that will prevent convicted domestic abusers from committing heinous crimes,” Martinez said. “As a member of the General Assembly, I believe it is our responsibility to ensure Illinoisans live in safe environments.”
