Illinois Hospital Association MeetingAfter meeting with representatives of the Illinois Hospital Association, State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago 20) joined Senator Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago 13) at a press conference to discuss the importance of adequately funding the state’s Medicaid system.

The meeting comes at a time when Gov. Rauner has proposed to cut Medicaid by $1.5 billion. The proposed cuts would reduce coverage of adult dental care, podiatry, renal dialysis and hemophilia and funding for some mental health facilities.

“I am concerned that cutting Medicaid could jeopardize health care access for our state’s most vulnerable citizens and negatively impact our hospitals,” Martinez said.

According to the Illinois Hospital Association, the proposed cuts could lead to the loss of 12,000 healthcare jobs statewide. 40 percent of hospitals are now operating in the red.
