Martinez Supports Legislation to Provide Educational Opportunities for Bilingual Students


Springfield, IL-State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) co-sponsored a new law signed by Governor Pat Quinn to distribute bilingual education funds on a per-student basis rather then in lump sums.

“Finding efficient methods to spend important education dollars allows the General Assembly to maximize our use of taxpayer money during this fiscal crisis,” Senator Martinez said. “In order for Illinois’ economy to recover, we must continue to efficiently spend rather than over-spend and waste.”

Senator Martinez Legislation to Foster Safer Communities Signed into Law

Springfield, IL - Recently, State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) sponsored a new law signed by Governor Pat Quinn that will assist in keeping communities safe by requiring more sex offenders to register with the State. House Bill 1253 requires sex offenders who were convicted of sex crimes before the establishment of the Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA) to register with the state if they commit a felony after the effective date.

                                                                Martinez Sponsors Legislation to  Streamline Child Abuse and Neglect Investigations


Springfield IL- Today, Governor Quinn signed legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) that streamlines investigations in cases of child abuse and neglect in the Illinois Senate.

Senate Bill 106 allows counselors, doctors, and other medical professionals to provide information to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) during ongoing abuse or neglect cases without reasonable suspicion.

                                      Senator Martinez “Patients’ Right to Know Act” Signed by Governor Quinn

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Today Governor Quinn signed legislation sponsored by State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) that creates the “Patients Right to Know Act.” House Bill 105 requires the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) to provide the public with profiles of licensed physicians registered in Illinois.

This legislation comes in lieu of several important reforms in the medical malpractice laws that were overturned by the Supreme Court. The new law reenacts the provision providing the comprehensive profile system.
