05312019CW0604 rSPRINGFIELD — Assistant Majority Leader Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) issued the following statement today after voting in favor of the Reproductive Health Act, which ensures women’s reproductive health care decisions will remain protected in Illinois even if Roe v. Wade is overturned:

“We are sending a strong message to all women in Illinois today that we trust them to make their own decisions about their bodies.

“Women’s reproductive rights are under attack, with multiple states passing laws intended to trigger the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Illinois must remain committed to being a safe state where women, along with their doctors, can make the health care decisions that are best for them.”

Senate Bill 25 passed both the House and the Senate and now heads to the governor’s desk.
