SPRINGFIELD — Assistant Majority Leader Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) issued the following statement after the Senate voted to approve legislation that would raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour in Illinois by 2025:

“This raise for the hard-working people of our state is long overdue. It is unacceptable for someone who works full-time to struggle to pay for food and housing costs. I am glad we finally took a step towards making sure our working families receive a living wage.”

Martinez is the chief-cosponsor of Senate Bill 1, which passed the Senate 39-18 today and heads to the House for consideration.
