Chicago, Ill -State Senator Iris Y. Martinez (D - Chicago) and Bosen Chicago Martial Arts & Fitness hosted a self-defense class Thursday night at the St. Nicolai United Church of Christ. The class was designed to encourage the community to be prepared in the event of a criminal assault.  Attendees learned basic self-defense skills and ways to stay alert to potential risks from would-be attackers.

Senator Martinez hosted the class to encourage residents to increase their awareness and brush up on attention to safety in the community. With a recent increase in assaults, the Senator urges the community to stay alert and report any unusual activities to 311.

“Our citizens’ safety is of the utmost importance to us and is essential to bettering our neighborhoods,” Martinez said. “The more diligent we are the safer our community will be.”
